The Diabolic by S.J. Kincaid
Synopsis: "Nemesis is a Diabolic. Created to protect a galactic Senator's daughter, Sidonia. There's no one Nemesis wouldn't kill to keep her safe. But when the power-mad Emperor summons Sidonia to the galactic court as a hostage, there is only one way for Nemesis to protect Sidonia.
She must become her. Now one of the galaxy's most dangerous weapons is masquerading in a world of corruption and Nemesis has to hide her true abilities or risk everything. As the Empire begins to fracture and rebellion looms closer, Nemesis learns that there is something stronger than her deadly force: the one thing she's been told she doesn't have - humanity. And, amidst all the danger, action and intrigue, her humanity might be the only thing that can save her, Sidonia and the entire Empire..." Review: I am so happy I finally picked up this novel. I saw it everywhere for a while on bookstagram but I never actually picked it up. Now that I have, I can see what the hype was for! I went into this novel pretty blind, but it was super easy to get into and I could not stop. Let me explain why. I just loved Nemesis as a character. Why?
This world itself is a unique blend of fantasy and science fiction. I've been seeing more of this blend more recently and I like it! Although I'll probably always love my fantasy worlds, it's interesting to see worlds of sci-fi mixed with some magic! However, the way this entire setting is made and the cool details is just amazing and mindblowing and that alone is something that everyone needs to read about. Although I loved the plot line, I have to say that some things were very predictable for me. Tyrus' character was transparent from the first moment he is introduced. However, there were still plenty of other plot twists I never saw coming so I still found myself flipping through pages furiously. Why you should pick up The Diabolic:
Time for me to pick up the next book in the series! Cover: ★★★★★ (SO CLEVER) Favorite Quote(s): "We were traversing but a sliver of the known galaxy. Outside the window loomed a void of darkness without stars." "There was no pleasure in bullying mindless, defenseless creatures." "It's terrifying to realize your own decisions are shaping your destiny." "You never saw me as a thing, Not even when I did."
